چکیده

This study aimed to assess the effects of 17α-methyltestosterone (MT) on growth and reproductive performance male Asian catfish (Clarias macrocephalus). A total 36 immature (ABW = 125.97 g) were randomly distributed into 12 circular tanks, fed with either control diet (with no MT) or diets containing MT at 60 mg·kg-1, 90 120 mg·kg-1 for 45 days. Results showed that weight gain (WG), specific rate (SGR) feed intake (FI) significantly higher in than those diet. Also, attractability test revealed groups attracted more did diet; however, increasing reduced its catfish. MT-treated exhibited heavier longer testes termination feeding trial. These also gonadosomatic indices (GSI) group. Following induced spawning nontreated female artificial fertilization eggs using testis preparation from experimental trial, results preparations all males resulted (FR) hatching rates (HR) eggs. In conclusion, incorporating improved both Clarias macrocephalus. Precisely, dosages optimal dietary a quadratic model maximal SGR, GSI, FR, HR values estimated be 58.3, 75.0, 90.6, 78.2 respectively.

Responses of growth rates and growth hormone levels of African catfish (Clarias gariepinus) to stocking density

In order to estimate responses of growth rate and growth hormone of Clarias gariepinus to stocking density, fish (initial weight 30.71 ± 0.89 g) were stocked in 120-L tanks at densities of 35, 65, 95, and 125 kg/m3 for 60 days. On day 30 and 60, the fish growth rates were measured, pituitary growth hormone (GH) mRNA levels and serum GH concentrations were examined by real-time qPCR and ELISA te...

Hybrid catfish (Clarias macrocephalus C. gariepinus) and Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) culture in an integrated pen-cum-pond system: growth performance and nutrient budgets

Two experiments were conducted in 200-m earthen ponds at Asian Institute of Technology, Thailand, for 87 days to test the feasibility of an integrated pen-cum-pond system, which utilizes wastes from intensive culture of hybrid catfish (Clarias macrocephalus C. gariepinus) as nutrients for semi-intensive culture of Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus). This integrated pen-cum-pond system enhance...

Induction of Primary Male in Juvenile Red Spotted Grouper Epinephelus akaara by Immersion of 17α-Methyltestosterone

We investigated the androgenic effects of 17α- methyltestosterone (MT) on gonadal sex reversal in juvenile red spotted grouper Epinephelus akaara. The fish were immersed in 17α-MT at 1 and 5 mg/L. Treatment method of 17α-MT was once weekly for 4 and 8 weeks. Fish were sampled at 12 months after end of the treatment period in order to histological analysis. At the initiation of an experiment (70...

Synthesis and chemical reactions of the steroidal hormone 17α-methyltestosterone.

Structural modifications of natural products with complex structures like steroids require great synthetic effort. A review of literature is presented on the chemistry of the steroidal hormone 17α-methyltestosterone that is approved by Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in the United States as an androgen for estrogen-androgen hormone replacement therapy treatment. The analog also offers specia...
